La Survivance, le seul hebdomadaire francophone publié en Alberta depuis 1928, cesse de paraitre le 7 novembre 1967, pour laisser place au Franco-Albertain (LFA). Ce changement de titre et en partie d’équipe directrice accompagne aussi un changement assez radical de la « politique » du nouveau journal, moins conservatrice et plus participative. Dans mon article, pour montrer ce changement, je me concentrerai sur les images dessinées (en particulier les bandes dessinées). Le corpus couvre un peu plus de 10 années, de mi-novembre 1967 à février 1979. Des milliers de pages, j’ai pu rassembler 1 500 images dessinées. Toutefois, avant d’analyser ce corpus, je me concentre sur le contexte de ces années 60 qui ont favorisé et expliquent ces changements. Le contexte est général comme la libéralisation des moeurs et de la consommation, la concurrence des autres médias—radio, télé—qui fait diminuer les recettes publicitaires, et plus particulièrement pour les catholiques qui constituent encore la majorité des Franco-Albertains, la laïcisation et l’impact de Vatican II. Le tout encourage l’équipe directrice à essayer de recourir à la participation des lecteurs et lectrices, en présentant des titres, des BD (p.ex., énigmes policières) et des images interactives (jeux), mais sans vraiment réussir.
