Abstract
En este artículo se hace una revisión crítica del reconocimiento simbólico de Eugene Nida en los estudios de traducción a la luz de su participación en organizaciones misioneras y en la formación de traductores misioneros. Se analiza cómo la recepción de Nida dentro de los estudios de traducción ha contribuido a legitimar las actividades misioneras evangélicas a lo largo de la historia y en la actualidad. Nuestro análisis ilustra en primer lugar los diversos modos de representación de Nida en los estudios de traducción y establece vínculos con el Instituto Lingüístico de Verano. A continuación, se describe cómo la participación activa de Nida en organizaciones misioneras desempeñó un papel fundamental en el establecimiento de su legitimidad académica. Por último, se incorporan estas conclusiones en un debate más amplio sobre la relación entre los estudios de traducción y la traducción misionera. Los hallazgos señalan la necesidad de un debate académico exhaustivo destinado a revaluar el posicionamiento de figuras clave dentro del canon de la disciplina y a reconstruir los efectos de la traducción misionera de los siglos XX y XXI sobre los derechos de los pueblos indígenas, sus cosmovisiones y sus territorios.
