En 2021, le Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris a engagé une réflexion collective sur la formation à la médiation de ses étudiant.es. À travers l’analyse de différentes sources (questionnaires internes à destination des étudiant.es, des enseignant.es, entretiens avec les responsables pédagogiques, groupe de recherche participative, ateliers de concertation, médias étudiant ou extérieur), cet article, après avoir décrit la démarche adoptée par le Conservatoire, analyse les degrés d’adhésion de la communauté au projet d’intégration d’une formation à la médiation culturelle aux cursus d’étude. Elle tente dans un second temps de prendre la mesure des mutations des récits et des valeurs dont ils sont porteurs en mettant la focale sur deux notions en mouvement : celle d’excellence pour ce qui concerne la formation des interprètes et celle de neutralité scientifique pour la formation en musicologie. En esquissant quelques parallèles avec d’autres espaces institutionnels de la musique (éducation ou diffusion), elle propose l’hypothèse que le développement de la formation à la médiation conduit à un changement de paradigme au sein de l’école d’art qu’est le Conservatoire de Paris.
