Abstract

Ce mémoire explore la place qu’entretient la projection de l’image audio-visuelle au théâtre. Plus précisément : est-ce que cette technologie peut réellement venir mettre en question le postulat qui veut que le théâtre soit indéfectiblement lié à l’imitation d'une action ? Premièrement, nous abordons l’histoire de l’utilisation des technologies sur la scène à partir de l’ouvrage Entangled : Technology and the Transformation of Performance de Chris Salter et Les écrans sur la scène dirigé par Béatrice Picon-Vallin. Ensuite, nous tentons de comprendre les usages à partir des classifications de Louise Poissant dans « Performativité et technologies au théâtre: procédés précurseurs » de la revue Théâtre/Public et Face à l’image de Ludovic Fouquet et Robert Faguy. En troisième lieu, nous explorons la stratégie d’utilisation du flou pour jouer avec l’illusion de la représentation au théâtre d’après l’article « Le flou : la déchirure de l’image au surgissement de l’écran » dans la revue Écrans. Ces notions seront analysées à travers la pièce Cinq visages pour Camille Brunelle de Guillaume Corbeil, mise en scène par Claude Poissant, ainsi que la création associée à ce mémoire, Tout ce que je sais du Roi Salomon de Paul Beaudon, mise en lecture par Julien-Claude Charlebois. Cette dernière, dont nous avons conçu les projections et la scénographie, a été présentée au Centre d’essai de l’Université par la Troupe de Théâtre de l’Université de Montréal en décembre 2023. La conception comprend quatre écrans disposés de chaque côté des interprètes où des images tournées sur le Mont-Royal et en studio sont projetées à partir d’un logiciel de mapping.
