Dans l’essai qui suit, j’étudie le deuil en contexte migratoire dans Littoral de Wajdi Mouawad et Finir en beauté de Mohamed El Khatib. Je fonde mon analyse sur une approche postcoloniale avec les concepts de la philosophie de la Relation (Édouard Glissant) et de l’interruption généalogique (Abdelwahab Meddeb). Dans les deux pièces, les héros sont confrontés au rapatriement de la dépouille d’un parent au pays d’origine, un pays meurtri par le souvenir de la guerre que l’on devine être le Liban chez Mouawad et le Maroc chez El Khatib. Je chercherai à déterminer si le deuil est pour les personnages principaux l’occasion de renouer avec une filiation perdue depuis l’émigration des parents vers l’occident. La madeleine de Mohamed raconte le « deuil blanc » éprouvé par Titou pour son père atteint de la maladie d’Alzheimer. La pièce est en parallèle une enquête sur « Fathia », le bébé mort-né de la fratrie dont le deuil n’a jamais été fait. La pièce constituée de fragments est à la fois autofictionnelle et basée sur des documents retravaillés ou utilisés tels quels (notes de carnets, enregistrements, document juridique ou encore des photos). L’action se déroule sur plusieurs territoires entre le Québec et la France, parmi les vivants et les morts avec notamment la présence des jnouns et la réincarnation de Fathia désormais adulte redescendue sur terre sous forme d’ange pour accomplir une mission.
