Abstract
Cet article part d’une étude de cas d’un sound system implanté dans la scène rave montréalaise, le « pomelo sound system ». Il s’agit de l’explorer comme une médiation matérielle qui sonorise la scène underground rave montréalaise. Cette posture permet d’examiner comment ce sound system façonne les expériences festives, mais surtout révèle des trajectoires culturelles, sociales et économiques qui structurent la scène qu’il sonorise. La singularité du cas étudié permet également d’explorer comment les scènes rave et free québécoises se sont formées distinctement. L’examen montre en effet que bien que le format sound system existe dans la scène free québécoise, celui-ci n’a pas infusé dans la scène rave. De fait, le « pomelo sound system » est le fruit de la trajectoire individuelle de son concepteur, d’un processus d’autonomisation de la scène rave et de la navigation sur des forums en ligne, notamment. Partir du concept de médiation nous permet également de montrer comment ce sound system interagit avec les participant⸱e⸱s d’une fête et se modifie en fonction des événements sonorisés. Il permet également d’explorer la centralité du « pomelo sound system » dans la scène montréalaise et la manière dont il participe de son autonomisation matérielle.
