Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Obesity has become a serious issue in our society and the World Health Organization has recently declared it an epidemic. The incidence of childhood obesity has also increased dramatically in the past few years. Physical activity (PA) is arguably one of the most important factors in reducing an individual's risk for obesity and those who are classified as being overweight or obese typically report lower levels of physical activity than those of normal weight. The Annapolis Valley Health Promoting Schools Project (AVHPSP) is an initiative to implement PA programming in hopes of increasing the overall PA and health of its students. For this case study, students in grades 4, 5, and 6 (n=51) at a small rural elementary school were studied. Reported structured and unstructured PA, screen time, and body mass index (BMI) of children were examined. Questionnaires were completed by the students and their parents. The results from this study were also compared to provincial data from the Physically Active Children and Youth (PACY) study that monitors PA behaviours and anthropometric variables of children and youth in the province of Nova Scotia. Percentages of children classified as overweight and obese were higher in both the AVHPSP and the PACY than previous provincial and national estimates. The majority of children in the AVHPSP case study did not report high enough levels of physical activity to meet Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines. This case study highlights the need for more structured physical activity and less time spent engaging in sedentary behaviours in young children to reduce the risks and long term complications of obesity. Recommendations for different stakeholders are outlined.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
