El trabajo analiza la posición relativa en cuanto a la generación de riqueza, productividad, complejidad tecnológica, distribución del ingreso, ingresos, así como el gasto público y los resultados en cuanto a la salud, comparando los diversos países según los grupos establecidos por el Banco Mundial y un conjunto acotado en función de trabajos anteriores y con una clasificación por ingresos diversa: Estados Unidos, Alemania, Corea, Japón, con PBI per cápita alto y lugares destacados en eslabones complejos de cadenas globales de valor; Portugal de PBI medio alto sin presencia en eslabones complejos; Argentina, Chile y Malasia de PBI medio; Brasil, Tailandia, Colombia, Indonesia, Argelia, Egipto, de PBI per cápita medio-bajo; Angola y Etiopía, de producto bruto per cápita bajo. Se parte de nuestro enfoque que vincula entre centro y periferia al concepto de complejidad tecnológica. Se trabaja con datos internacionales a disposición, analizando la estructura y las evoluciones recientes. Se puede ver la estrecha relación entre PBI per cápita, ingresos, pobreza, capacidad estatal con la productividad, también - aunque menor- con la complejidad tecnológica. Por último puede verse que las variables trabajadas no determinan los resultados de la salud, al menos para la esperanza de vida. Las causas de esto deberán ser un tema de investigaciones posteriores.
