Las razas caninas proceden de la domesticación en el Paleolítico Superior y han sufrido procesos de diferenciación, cuellos de botella y selección por características diversas que han generado una inmensa variabilidad que se manifiesta en el gran número y diversidad de razas. Sin embargo, muchas de estas razas tienen un censo pequeño y su manejo genético facilita la aparición de consanguinidad. La consanguinidad es el resultado de la reproducción entre individuos emparentados, lo que incrementa la homocigosidad y la probabilidad de que alelos idénticos por descendencia, que son copias idénticas de un alelo procedente de un ancestro común a ambos padres, se encuentren en un mismo locus. Además, la consanguinidad se asocia con el aumento de enfermedades hereditarias, la reducción de la longevidad, problemas reproductivos y compromete la capacidad adaptativa de las poblaciones.<br />La consanguinidad se ha estudiado tradicionalmente a partir de la información genealógica, pero la disponibilidad de información molecular permite abordar el estudio de la consanguinidad mediante la detección de segmentos de homocigosidad (ROH) presentes en los individuos. Los ROH largos indican consanguinidad más reciente, mientras que lo ROH cortos se asocian con consanguinidad ancestral.<br />En este trabajo se han analizado los segmentos ROH de 48 animales de cuatro razas caninas (Border Collie -30 individuos-, Pastor Australiano -7-, Bichón Maltés -5- y Labrador Retriever -6-). Para ello se ha utilizado el paquete informático detectRUNS. Con la limitación del tamaño de muestra disponible, los resultados han permitido concluir que la raza más consanguínea fue el Pastor Australiano. Por otra parte, se han detectado individuos con evidencias de consanguinidad reciente. Además, la distribución de los segmentos de homocigosidad fue heterogénea a lo largo del genoma autosómico y entre los genes presentes en las regiones del genoma con mayor porcentaje de homocigosidad se pueden destacar los siguientes genes: NRP1, KIF5B, CADM4, ITSN2, UCP1, NPR2, SQSTM1, OR13E1, OR13J1, OR13C11C, TCAR1, ADAMTS12, ANGPT1 y RSPO2.<br /><br />
