Abstract
This article studies almanac “Vitriak” (“Windmill”) dedicated to one of the smallest former districts of Chernihiv region, Talalayiv district. Over the course of six years, this almanac managed to publish 5 issues. From issue to issue, its volume increased, the thematic range expanded, which testifi ed to the wealth of this district in cultural, spiritual and historical terms. This happened in almost every district. Still, the depth and scale of this phenomenon is still different for each of them. They are revealed while penetrating and delving into historical, spiritual and general cultural layers. The compiler of this almanac coped with quite a lot of work in this direction: to collect and publish materials about some of the representatives of the Ukrainian elite involved in the Talalayiv district in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries, such as Vasyl Horlenko, Ivan Kavaleridze, Oleksandr Hubar, Petro Rotach, Hryhorii Vyshnevyi, et al. Much attention is paid to the creative work of local authors and natives of this region – P. Rotach, Oleksandra Hostrii, and others. A certain issue was devoted to the countrymen who fought and died during the Second World War: a brief historical background of the village, lists of those who died and those who went missing were presented. The almanac cosists of materials that can help teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature, history, geography and local history. In its issues, works by authors from Kyiv, the Crimea, Poltava, Talalaiiv district, Chernihiv are published: poems, prose, epistolary works, historical materials, literary and local history studies, etc. The covers are fi lled with colour and black-and-white personal and collective photographs on all pages. The almanac issues critically reflect on the problems associated with forgetfulness, indifference and incompetence of some leaders of this district.
