Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is an advanced class of concrete materials.Relative to conventional concrete, UHPC shows superior mechanical and durability performance. Therefore, UHPC has been increasingly adopted worldwide, from retrofitting existing structures to constructing new structures. While numerous studies have investigated the performance of UHPC beams, minimal knowledge is available on their behavior with a high reinforcing ratio (above 2%) and low fiber volume (below 2%).Recent studies have shown that adopting a high reinforcing ratio is beneficial for UHPC beams because they allow a smaller cross-section for a given tensionreinforcing steel area.Additionally, low-reinforcing ratio UHPC beams often fail prematurely with low ductility due to early failure after crack localization.Adopting a high reinforcing ratio can help avoid this early failure after crack localization because reinforcing steel can harden to compensate for the tension force loss due to crack localization. However, an excessively high reinforcing ratio may result in compression-controlled failure where UHPC crushes before steel reinforcement yields, another low ductility failure mode.Currently, no studies have explored the maximum reinforcing ratio of UHPC beams. To address the aforementioned research questions, this study executes a large-scale experimental program to investigate the behavior of highly reinforced UHPC beams and their maximum reinforcing ratio.Six flexural tests were conducted, including multiple variables: matrix (UHPC versus conventional concrete), fiber volumes (1% versus 2%), reinforcing ratios (3.1% to 6.6%), and reinforcement arrangement (spaced bars versus bundled bars).Experiments revealed that adopting UHPC can effectively reduce the crosssectional area of concrete beams by over 50% without sacrificing the structural performance.Reducing the fiber volume from 2% to 1% as well as changing the spaced bars to bundled bars are both viable options for enhancing cost and structural efficiency. When the reinforcing ratio reaches II 6.6%, reinforced UHPC beams approach a balanced failure mode where UHPC crushing occurs simultaneously with reinforcement yielding. Thus, a maximum reinforcing ratio of around 6.6% is observed for UHPC, which is higher than that for conventional concrete (around 2.5% to 3.0%).This increase in the reinforcing ratio is attributed to the high compressive strength and crushing resistance of UHPC.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
