This study aimed to investigate the adsorption of sodium risedronate by different chitosan-modified zeolites. To this end, the adsorption and kinetic data were discussed using different theoretical models enabling a deep understanding of the adsorption mechanisms that take place at the zeolite/risedronate interface. The materials obtained composed of sodium and calcium-exchanged zeolite A (LTA) and X (FAU), chitosan, and sodium risedronate were characterised using various analytical techniques, including XRD, ASAP BET, SEM/EDS, and XRF. Moreover, cytotoxicity test (MTT assay) according to ISO 10993-5 standard for medical devices was carried out to establish the possibility of using modified zeolites in biomedical applications. This study presents a novel approach to drug delivery for osteoporosis treatment by exploring the use of chitosan-modified zeolites as an innovative platform for the adsorption and perspective release of sodium risedronate. The dataset contains raw experimental data supporting the adsorption, physicochemical characterization, and biological evaluation of chitosan-modified zeolite materials. The folder entitled “Adsorption” contains a Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) presenting raw adsorption equilibrium and kinetic data (absorbance and adsorbed amount) used for isotherm and kinetic model fitting. The folder entitled “ASAP BET” contains original surface area and porosity analysis data obtained using an ASAP surface area analyzer. Individual Microsoft Excel files (.XLS) correspond to nitrogen adsorption–desorption measurements for NaA, CaA, NaX, and CaX zeolites, both unmodified and chitosan-modified (file name indicates the type of sample). The folder entitled “Cytotoxicity” contains Microsoft Excel files (.xlsx) with raw results of MTT cytotoxicity assays performed on MT3T3-E1 cells (file name indicates the experiment). The folder entitled “EDS Elemental mapping” contains raw STEM-EDS elemental mapping micrographs (.TIF) for NaA, CaA, NaX, and CaX samples, and their chitosan-modified counterparts including individual elemental distribution maps (e.g., Si, Al, Ca, Na, C, O). The folder entitled “SEM” contains raw scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs (.TIF) of unmodified and chitosan-modified zeolite samples (file name indicates the sample type). The folder entitled “XRD” contains original X-ray diffraction data files (.xrdml) for all samples, as well as a compiled Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) with the processed diffraction patterns. The folder entitled “XRF” contains a Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) with raw elemental composition data obtained from X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis. The folder entitled "ICP-OES" contains a Microsoft Word file (.docx) with results obtained from ICP-OES analysis of NaA and NaX zeolites.
