A presente pesquisa foi realizada para avaliar alexitimia, depressão e ansiedade em portadores de glaucoma sob atendimento ambulatorial e como estas variáveis encontram-se associadas. Avaliar também aspectos demográficos tais como gênero, idade, escolaridade,situação sócio-econômico e itens relacionados a sáude, considerando-se as variáveis estudadas. Participantes: 39 pacientes do ambulatório de oftalmologia de Hospital e Maternidade Celso Pierro, com diagnóstico de glaucoma, idade entre 18 e 75 anos de idade, de ambos os gêneros (13 homens e 26 mulheres), diversos níveis de escolaridade. Amostra é Consecutiva do ponto de vista de seleção. Trata-se de estudo exploratório sobre o tema. As medidas foram obtidas com a Escala de Alexitimia de Toronto TAS-26, o Inventário Beck de Depressão- BDI e Inventário Beck de Ansiedade- BAI e o Questionário Sócio-Demográfico. Com exceção da variável sexo, em que predominaram as mulheres, sob os demais aspectos a amostra revelou-se bastante homogênea o que permitiu o estudo das variáveis para todo o grupo. Os portadores de glaucoma apresentaram em sua maioria níveis de alexitimia ( M=73,18, Dp= 11,56 ) compatíveis com os observados em amostras clínicas e com baixo nível de escolaridade. Foram observados baixos níveis de ansiedade ( M=12,34, Dp=11,23) e depressão ( M=12,31, Dp= 11,67) expressos em altos índices de associação entre estas variáveis. Estes baixos níveis parecem relacionar-se com a estabilidade da situação visual desta amostra: perda visual parcial estável há certo tempo, ou conservação de visão normal . Houve correlação significante da TAS-26 com os escores da BAI ( r = 0, 49 , p< 0,01 bicaudal para amostra total e r = 0,55 , p<0,01 bicaudalpara amostra feminina ) e, em menor escala , com o BDI ( r =0,35 para amostra total ,p<0,05 bicaudal). E entre BAI e BDI verificou-se forte correlação : r= 0, 68 para amostra total (p<0,001), r= 0,65 para amostra masculina e r= 0, 67 para amostra feminina (p <0,001). A hipótese segundo a qual a amostra apresentaria índices em média mais elevados de depressão, ansiedade, e eventualmente de alexitimia, que a população geral, não se confirmou.
