Este dossiê, intitulado “Gênero, sexualidade e educação: feminismos, pós-estruturalismo e teoria queer”, organizado para compor um número especial da Educar em Revista, vem a público cinco anos após a publicação do primeiro dossiê que tratou das temáticas de gênero e sexualidade neste periódico (Educar em Revista, número 35, 2009). Naquela ocasião, o dossiê “Gênero, Sexualidade e educação: novas cartografias, velhos problemas”, ao percorrer um traçado de pesquisas sobre gênero e sexualidade, desenhava um pequeno mapa sobre parte das reflexões brasileiras, latino-americanas e norte-americanas na educação. Em 2009, já havia uma produção brasileira e estrangeira bastante significativa e aquele dossiê trouxe a contribuição de pesquisadoras das primeiras gerações dos estudos de gênero, como Tânia Swain (UnB) e Deborah Britzman (York University/Toronto), além de um conjunto de jovens pesquisadoras/es brasileiras/os e latino-americanas/os oriundas/os de instituições como: Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA), Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), Universidad Pedagógica de Santiago/Chile e Universidad de La Habana/Cuba.Agora, em 2014, com a publicação deste novo dossiê, também sobre gênero, sexualidade e educação, o campo de estudos de gênero e da sexualidade na educação se encontra expandido, mais maduro e completamente consolidado no Brasil. Temos um número grande de grupos de pesquisa registrados no Diretório de Pesquisa do CNPq, uma quantidade significativa de congressos, colóquios e seminários sobre o tema, muitos livros, dossiês, coletâneas e artigos publicados,além do Grupo de Trabalho (GT 23) – Gênero, sexualidade e Educação da ANPED – Associação Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Educação – que, na Reunião Anual da ANPED de 2013, completou 10 anos de existência.
