The increasing demand for wood and changing climate conditions require the selection of highly productive and resistant to adverse factors tree varieties for the creation of forest plantations.Leningrad poplar (Populus leningradensis Bogd.) is a promising clone from crossing Canadian poplar with sweet poplar (Populus deltoides Populus suaveolens).Due to its high growth rate and frost resistance, this variety still serves as a productivity standard in the North-West of Russia.The article is devoted to the analysis of experience and improvement of agricultural technology for growing planting material of this hybrid in forest nurseries of the taiga zone.The study of the experience of growing planting material was carried out in the Glukhovsky nursery of the Kipensky forestry of the Lomonosovsky district of the Leningrad region.The study showed that proper agricultural technology, including optimization of planting and care conditions, significantly increases the survival rate and productivity of seedlings.In the nursery, poplar propagation is carried out by cuttings prepared from the mother plantation, where trees with the greatest growth of shoots are selected.To stimulate the formation of shoots, the axial shoot of the mother tree is cut off, which leads to the formation of shoots 100-140 cm high.Cuttings are prepared in March for spring planting and late in the fall for autumn.Stem cuttings should have at least one bud, preferably closer to the upper cut.Spring planting provides 9.5-28 % greater height increment and 37 % greater diameter growth, though autumn planting with strict adherence to cultivation protocols also demonstrates satisfactory results (reaching 14.3 m in height and 15.2 cm in diameter by age 17).The nursery has a school department for obtaining ,-, 02 (5 05 52 (Populus leningradensis.Bogd.),.5( 0( ) :large planting material.Despite minor damage to the plants, more than 88 % are healthy, which indicates the high efficiency of agricultural technology.The results of the study emphasize the importance of further studying the agricultural technology of growing Leningrad poplar planting material to create productive forest plantations in the conditions of the North-West of Russia, and can also be used for landscaping and creating forest shelterbelts.
