INTRODUCCIÓN. Las fracturas periprotésicas de cadera son cada vez más frecuentes. Es una patología de difícil manejo y potencialmente grave, especialmente si tenemos en cuenta la morbimortalidad y la pérdida de funcionalidad que conlleva. Existen multitud de factores que aumentan el riesgo de padecer una fractura periprotésica de cadera. En esta actualización se revisarán diferentes estudios con el fin de comprender mejor los factores de riesgo, las complicaciones y las opcionesterapéuticas asociadas con este tipo de fracturas. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS. Revisión bibliográfica de la literatura utilizando la base de datos de PubMed. Se utilizaron términos de búsqueda específicos relacionados con las fracturas periprotésicas de cadera y la clasificación de Vancouver tipo B. Se incluyeron estudios publicados en inglés y español hasta la fecha más reciente disponible y se excluyeron todos aquellos estudios que no proporcionaban información relevante sobre la incidencia, factores de riesgo, morbimortalidad, opciones de tratamiento o resultados clínicos de este tipo de fracturas. Las palabras clave utilizadas fueron: Fracturas periprotésicas de cadera, morbimortalidad, fracturas tipo B de Vancouver. CONCLUSIONES La alta incidencia de complicaciones y mortalidad relacionadas con las fracturas periprotésicas de cadera tipo B de Vancouver representa un desafío importante tanto para los pacientes como para los profesionales de la salud. Por tanto, es necesario adoptar un enfoque integral y multidisciplinario con el fin de mejorar los resultados y la calidad de vida de los pacientes.
