Phialocephala scopiformis (Helotiales, Ascomycota) strain DAOMC229536 was isolated as a foliar endophyte of white spruce (Picea glauca) from eastern Quebec. It produces the anti-insectan secondary metabolite rugulosin, which inhibits feeding by spruce budworm, a devastating commercial forestry pest.
