Abstract
The second Trump administration’s transactional approach to multilateral diplomacy and its actions and attitudes pose serious challenges to the G7. This article reviews those challenges and their effects on the process and substance of G7 deliberations, undertakings and results. It then analyses the 2025 Kananaskis G7 summit; considers the future of the G7; sketches out possible scenarios in the G7’s path forward; and discusses how the Kananaskis experience can inform planning and preparations for the 2026 summit to be hosted by France and possibly the 2027 summit scheduled to be hosted by the United States. It also discusses how Canada can contribute to the work of the G7, and concludes with the hope that the G7 will continue to play a meaningful role in managing the changes as it addresses continuing and emerging global risks threatening the economy, security, health, environment and climate change. The article also includes a brief discussion of the G20 in the Trump era.

Full frame distilled prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
