Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

-- ABSTRACT : Beach nourishment is a soft engineering shore protection method still very recent in Quebec. This method has been effective on multiple coasts around the world and therefore could be further taken into consideration. However, efficiency of beach nourishments concerning large sediment volumes hasn't yet been evaluated on Quebec coasts. This research aims to analyse the morphosedimentary evolution and to evaluate the efficiency of beach nourishment to reduce coastal erosion and flooding in Quebec for 5 locations with nourishment. To do so, retrospective analysis and morphosedimentary monitoring where performed for each study sites. Conception methods where than evaluated and compared with international literature. Results shows that beach nourishment can be an effective method to protect against erosion and coastal flooding in Quebec. However, the different methods used greatly vary the results. Quebec is still beginning to use beach nourishment as a method of coastal protection and that the lack of experience and preparation for certain nourishment projects has limited their effectiveness. The absence of a reference state and the lack of monitoring regarding certain nourishments has also limited their analysis. Improved design methods, nourishment planification and pre and post nourishment monitoring will help to improve the efficiency of future nourishment projects. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Beach nourishment, geomorphology, coastal science, integrated management, coastal protection.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
