Abstract

Dans cet article, l’autrice explore les effets du parrainage/marrainage conjugal et des politiques qui le régulent selon une approche féministe intersectionnelle inspirée de Collins (2000 et 2017). Lors d’une recherche anthropologique basée principalement sur les récits de vie, elle a rencontré, sur une période de 14 mois, un total de 43 personnes vivant ou ayant vécu le parrainage/marrainage conjugal au Québec. Elle a adapté la matrice de domination de Collins (2000 et 2017) pour comprendre comment les différents domaines de pouvoir (le structurel, le disciplinaire, l’hégémonique et l’interpersonnel) et leurs interrelations affectent les personnes qui ont recours à cette procédure. Ainsi, elle montre que le processus reproduit des violences institutionnelles et différentes formes de discrimination basées sur le genre, l’origine des personnes parrainées ou marrainées, la classe sociale et l’orientation sexuelle. Il favorise ultimement la création de relations conjugales inégalitaires façonnées par les dépendances et la possible apparition de violences au sein du couple.
