Abstract
Günümüzde, Ülkemiz sınırları içinde yer alan çok sayıda taşınmaz kültür varlığı yok olma tehlikesi ile karşı karşıyadır. Bu taşınmaz kültür varlıkları, kent merkezlerinde olduğu kadar kırsal alanlarda da sıklıkla yer almaktadır. Çeşitli tarihsel dönemlerden günümüze ulaşan tarihi hamam yapıları, yukarda belirtilen taşınmaz kültür varlıklarının önemli bir kısmını oluşturmaktadır. Bu hamam yapıları, koruma ve planlama süreçleri açısından öncelikli olarak ele alınması gereken öğelerdir. Çanakkale İli Ayvacık İlçesi'ne bağlı Babakale Köyü'nde yer alan hamam yapısı da, bu kapsamda ele alınabilecek bir taşınmaz kültür varlığı örneğidir. Bu çalışmada, Babakale Hamamı'nın gelecek nesillere en iyi şekilde aktarılmasına olanak sağlayacak bir koruma yaklaşımının başlıca ilkelerinin ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmanın kapsamında öncelikle, yapıya ait kalıntıların güncel durumu açıklanmış, devamında ise yapı için önerilen koruma yaklaşımının temel ilkeleri ile ilgili açıklamalara yer verilmiştir.
