Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

There have been many works in the scholarship of Protestant church education aimed at characterizing, educating and empowering various bodies of North American Christian women. Many postcolonial, feminist, and theological scholars have been critical of – as understood by Michel Foucault – disciplinary powers, such as patriarchy and Eurocentrism, for negatively impacting North American women as victims. Furthermore, they have attempted to overcome a dualistic identification of victimizers and victims in a theoretical sense. Yet, postcolonial and poststructural analysis of the relationship reveals that women not only participate in disciplinary powers consciously and/or unconsciously, but also perform their agency in relation to these powers in a multi-dimensional way. This thesis provides a contextual analysis of first-generation Korean Canadian Christian women, specifically their performative participation in relationship with Foucauldian disciplinary powers: namely, patriarchy and Eurocentrism for the purpose of this study. It argues that the relationship is based on discipline and regulation, and, more importantly, cooperation with and modification of these disciplinary powers. The thesis characterizes these women as agents who can perform from a multiplicity of intentions, identities, and interests. Thus, the women are not only oppressed, but also accountable for their choices and actions, and are persistently agential in all aspects of discursive power relations. This Christian education study attempts to provide a modified analytical perspective on the notion of hybridity of agency and to suggest how such a notion can contribute to a renewed pedagogy of conscientization for Korean Canadian Christian women. Furthermore, the study describes and interweaves a thematic understanding of survival and situated agency and suggests a pedagogical process aimed at resilient and transformative actions. In sum, the women exercise the hybridity of agency (mainly, resilient, transformative, and sinful agency) in relation with disciplinary powers. The thesis ultimately suggests a pedagogical process that facilitates consciousness of the hybridity of agency, so as to empower women to exercise their resilient and transformative agency. Four phases of this process are identified and described: identifying, analyzing, choosing/acting, and reflecting.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
