This study examines how standardization affects death rates in Canada and Sweden, focusing on the effects of changing standard populations.A cross-sectional analysis of national statistics office data examines how demographics and healthcare systems affect mortality rate comparability.Data standardization uses direct and indirect methods.The results reveal that age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) fluctuate under different assumptions and are sensitive to standard population selection.An appropriate standard is needed for accurate mortality comparisons since changing the standard population impacts death rates.The study also examines national standardized death rates and finds statistically significant differences in mortality outcomes.These findings emphasize the need to standardise public health and epidemiological research to illuminate health inequities and inform better policies and initiatives.This study illuminates standardization processes and population selection to improve international mortality rate comparisons.Epidemiology benefits greatly from it.
