S obzirom na globalni problem sve veće usamljenosti i odvojenosti čovjeka od prirodnog okruženja, potrebe za pronalaskom zaštitnih čimbenika ljudskog mentalnog zdravlja te replikacijom rezultata prijašnjih istraživanja na različitim populacijama, cilj ovog istraživanja bio je ispitati odnos socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti, kontakta s prirodom, decentriranja pojedinaca te mentalnog zdravlja. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 297 sudionika iz Republike Hrvatske, od kojih je 218 žena, 77 muškaraca i 2 osobe koje se nisu izjasnile o rodnom identitetu. Korišteni mjerni instrumenti su: Kratki upitnik mentalnog zdravlja (MHI-5) (Slišković, 2020), Skala socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti (Ćubela Adorić i Nekić, 2019), subskala decentriranja Toronto skale usredotočene svjesnosti (Lau i sur., 2006) te Lista kontakta s prirodom i aktivnosti primjećivanja prirode (Richardson i sur., 2022). Analizom korelacija među varijablama na bivarijatnoj razini utvrđeno je da je bolje mentalno zdravlje povezano s više kontakta s prirodom, više decentriranja od vlastitih misli te manje socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti. Također, utvrđeno je da je više kontakta s prirodom povezano s više decentriranja od vlastitih misli i manje socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti. Međutim, nije utvrđena povezanost između decentriranja od vlastitih misli i socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti. Naposlijetku, utvrđen je pozitivan doprinos decentriranja od vlastitih misli te negativan doprinos socijalne i emocionalne usamljenosti u objašnjenju varijance samoprocjena mentalnog zdravlja, dok se kontakt s prirodom u ovom skupu varijabli nije pokazao kao značajan prediktor. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju na složenost međusobnog odnosa pojedinca te društvenog i prirodnog svijeta, pri čemu se posebno ističe uloga psihosocijalnih čimbenika u očuvanju mentalnog zdravlja, a samim time i potreba za razvojem preventivnih pristupa i intervencija usmjerenih na osnaživanje tih osobina.
