Abstract
Le document présente une évaluation de l’esturgeon noir dans la rivière Saint-Jean, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Un modèle à deux sexes et structuré selon l’âge a été élaboré à l’aide du logiciel stock synthesis (SS3), avec des données provenant des débarquements commerciaux de la rivière Saint-Jean et de la baie de Fundy. Les analyses de sensibilité ont exploré diverses hypothèses dans le modèle de population, y compris l’épuisement historique au début de la pêche dans la rivière Saint-Jean (fin du 19e siècle), la sélectivité de la pêche dans la rivière Saint-Jean, l’ampleur des prises dans la baie de Fundy, le sex-ratio des prises et la pente de la relation stock-recrue de Beverton-Holt. Dans la plupart des scénarios, on a estimé que la biomasse du stock reproducteur (BSR) femelle était supérieure à la BSRRMD (la BSR au rendement maximal durable) en 2020. Les projections à court terme (10 ans) indiquaient qu’au total autorisé des captures actuel (175 mâles et 175 femelles), la biomasse diminuerait, mais demeurerait supérieure à la BSRRMD. L’épuisement historique depuis 1891 (trois générations) est également présenté aux fins de l’évaluation du COSEPAC. Une analyse distincte pour les données de marquage a estimé que la mortalité par pêche depuis 2009 était semblable, en tendance et en ampleur, à celles des modèles SS3.
