Dans le Canada atlantique, l’aire de répartition de la morue franche (Gadus morhua) s’étend du banc de Georges au nord du Labrador. On compte un certain nombre de concentrations de morue franche dans cette aire de répartition, y compris celles du sud du plateau néo-écossais et de la baie de Fundy, dans les divisions 4X et 5Y de l’Organisation des pêches de l’Atlantique Nord-Ouest (OPANO). En 2010, le Comité sur la situation des espèces en péril au Canada (COSEPAC) a évalué la population du sud (4X5YZjm) comme espèce en voie de disparition, et une évaluation du potentiel de rétablissement a été réalisée en 2011 (MPO 2011). La dernière évaluation du stock de morue franche dans les divisions 4X5Y a été réalisée en 2018, parallèlement à une évaluation du cadre qui comprenait un examen des données d’entrée, des informations sur les écosystèmes, des approches de modélisation et des approches à données limitées. La dernière mise à jour de l’état du stock remonte à 2020. La Gestion des pêches de Pêches et Océans Canada (MPO) a demandé au Secteur des sciences du MPO d’appliquer l’approche de modélisation élaborée en 2018 avec les indices des relevés et des prises mis à jour pour fournir un avis sur les prises. La présente réponse des Sciences découle de l’examen par les pairs régional sur la mise à jour de l’état des stocks de morue dans 4X5Y qui s’est tenu les 6 et 7 décembre 2022.
