Dans cette intervention faite sur invitation et avec Paul Aubin (Québec), nous présenterons un état des lieux des inventaires de manuels scolaires avec une attention particulière à leur mise en ligne. Pour la Belgique, il s'agit essentiellement de mettre en évidence les travaux de l'équipe de Marc Depaepe et la publication d'un premier inventaire aux Archives générales du Royaume (1830-1880). Nous comparerons cet outil « générique » avec notre propre inventaire, centré sur une seule discipline, à savoir le français enseigné comme langue étrangère (1830-1900) en termes d'exhaustivité et de modèle de présentation. Nous discuterons également de l'opportunité de catégoriser les manuels par discipline avec le risque d'anachronisme que cela comporte. Nous terminerons sur une note « pratique », citant les initiatives en cours en Belgique pour se doter d'outils similaires à ceux de la France (cf. les travaux en cours au Service d'histoire de l'éducation de l'INRP sous la direction de Choppin - banque de données EMMANUELLE).
