Abstract
RésuméLes phénomènes d’acculturation et de syncrétisme liés à l’évangélisation, souvent étonnement rapide, de l’Océanie sont au cœur de débats importants en particulier entre anthropologues et historiens. Cet article se propose d’en examiner les enjeux d’abord en revenant sur les différences méthodologiques entre les deux disciplines, avant de souligner l’importance pour l’une comme pour l’autre des sources missionnaires et les enjeux idéologiques liés aux différences d’interprétations. Nous terminerons enfin en montrant comment ces phénomènes d’acculturation et de syncrétisme correspondent à des échanges réciproques et non à une domination unilatérale comme il semble à première vue.
