Abstract
In his magnificent book, Capitalism, Colonisation and the Ecocide-Genocide Nexus, Martin Crook presents us with a political economy analysis of relations of genocide in "settler-colonial contexts" in the Anthropocene.He sets forth a dialectic of insatiable accumulation of wealth inherent in capitalism and the destruction of Indigenous life.The pervasive and structural nature of "the logic of settler colonial capitalism" is made visible in comparing case studies of Indigenous peoples in Kenya, more specifically the Sengwer and Kikiyu and the Gomeroi, the Githabul, and Wangan and Jagalingou nations in Australia.Crook traces the perpetual "laws of motion" of genocidal practices by engaging with the material conditions of Indigenous peoples to establish a "history of the present" to, firstly, demonstrate how the logic of accumulation continually drives the logic of Indigenous elimination. 1 Secondly, another key structure of the political economy of eco-genocide is constituted by "any extra-economic coercive process of naked plunder or theft that alienates a social group from their lands as the capitalist system expands into non-capitalist territory."In this way, Crook
