Abstract
It is an honor and great pleasure for the Department of Mathematics – Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta – INDONESIA, to be entrusted by the South East Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS) with the organization of its international conference every four years. Appreciation goes to those who have developed and established this tradition of the succesful series of conferences. The SEAMS – Gadjah Mada University International Conference 2007 on Mathematics and Its Applications was held on 24 – 27 July 2007 at Gadjah Mada University. The conference was the follow up of the succesful series of events which have been held in 1989, 1995, 1999, and 2003. The conference has achieved its main purposes of promoting the exchange of ideas and presentation of recent development, particularly in the areas of pure, applied, and computational mathematics which are represented in South East Asian Countries. The conference has also provided a forum of researchers, developers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and to discuss future direction of research. Moreover, it has enhanced collaboration between researchers from countries in the region and those from outside. The conference was attended by more than 200 participants. They come from Japan, Canada, India, Nepal, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Germany, Oman, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, and Indonesia. During the four days conference, there were 15 plenary lectures and than 148 contributed papers communications. The plenary lectures were delivered by Prof. Chew Tuan Seng (Singapore), Prof. Zhao Dongsheng (Singapore), Prof. J.A.M. van der Weide (the Netherlands), Prof. R. Helmers (the Netherlands), Prof. J.C. Engwerda (the Netherlands), Prof. Holger Hermans (Germany), Prof. Saburou Saitoh (Japan), Prof. Y. Sawano (Japan), Prof. H. Marubayashi (Japan), Prof. Y. Hirano (Japan), Prof. Hendra Gunawan (Indonesia), Prof. Sri Wahyuni (Indonesia), Andonowati, PhD (Indonesia), Edi Winarko, PhD (Indonesia), Dr. Dedi Rosadi (Indonesia). Most of the contributed papers were delivered by mathematicians from Asia. The proceedings consists of 9 invited lectures and 54 refereed contributed papers.
