Abstract
Esej podejmuje pytanie, czy kategoria oczekiwania, powracająca we współczesnej kulturze w wielorakich kontekstach, ma charakter filozoficzny i czy może okazać się pomocnym narzędziem w przypadku analiz ontologicznych bądź wprost antropologicznych. Przywołane sensy oczekiwania, pojawiające się w narracjach filozoficznych i literackich (Martina Heideggera, Edwarda Stachury, Alberta Camusa, Franza Kafki czy Samuela Becketta), wskazują, że w myśli nowoczesnej i ponowoczesnej pojęcie to stopniowo wypiera kategorię nadziei, tradycyjnie wiązaną ze światopoglądem teistycznym, i zajmuje jej miejsce – jako ostateczny horyzont oczekiwania, bez względu na jego doraźny przedmiot, jawi się w nich jako kres istnienia, a sam ów przedmiot służy jedynie zamaskowaniu tego podstawowego faktu. Kluczowy charakter w przypadku przyjęcia takiego właśnie sensu oczekiwania ma rozumienie podmiotu, który w epoce nowoczesności i ponowoczesności jawi się jako przede wszystkim podmiot doznający: pasywny i pozbawiony jednostkowej (a zatem również zbiorowej sprawczości). Z ujęciem tym kontrastuje koncepcja osoby zaproponowana przez Karola Wojtyłę, który sens podmiotowości człowieka upatruje właśnie w jego sprawczości. W tym kontekście pojęcie oczekiwania nabiera charakteru istotnie filozoficznego, ujmując pewien modus ludzkiej egzystencji, której integralnym elementem jest oczekiwanie na moment sprawczości jako moment spełnienia, oparty na dotychczasowym namyśle podmiotu nad istotą wartości oraz granicą między dobrem a złem. Zaprezentowane w eseju intuicje mogą znaleźć rozwinięcie w namyśle nad sensem innych (obok oczekiwania), istotnych w kulturze współczesnej kategorii pojęciowych i ukazania ich interpretacji w myśli personalistycznej.
