Kota Surabaya merupakan kota yang terbentuk dari kumpulan kampung-kampung (pocket) kota. Dalam rangka merancang Kota Surabaya yang inklusif dan menguatkan identitas Kota Surabaya, dapat dimulai dari pemahaman mengenai morfologi kampung-kampung lamanya. Kampung Gembong merupakan kampung lama yang berada di Kawasan Kapasan, salah satu pusat perdagangan Kota Surabaya. Kampung ini berkembang dan bertahan berdampingan dengan kawasan pusat perdagangan menghasilkan struktur permukiman yang kompleks. Maka, tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi perkembangan tipologi dan morfologi dari kumpulan hunian yang terbentuk di Kampung Gembong. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif, dengan melakukan diachronic reading untuk menganalisis pola perkembangan Kampung Gembong dan typo morphology analysis untuk mengidentifikasi tipologi dan morfologi kawasan studi. Hasil dari studi ini adalah Kampung Gembong termasuk pada tipologi permukiman pola mengantong dengan campuran pola linier dengan karakteristik terbuka. Perimeter segment kampung memiliki spesialisasi area perdagangan dan jasa. Serta, terdapat keterkaitan sosial ekonomi antara warga kampung dengan perimeter segment-nya, dibuktikan oleh mata pencaharian sebagian besar warga sebagai pedagang.
