Cet article examine la compréhension des syntagmes nominaux (SN) spécialisés en anglais dans le cadre du modèle Construction-Intégration, pour les besoins de la traduction professionnelle et de la formation des traducteurs. Nous montrons que cette compétence dépasse la reconnaissance morphosyntaxique et mobilise des opérations cognitives dynamiques (inférences, activation des connaissances, validation contextuelle) face à des difficultés récurrentes : ellipses, faux monolithiques, SN terminologisés non répertoriés, collocations spécialisées à antinomie interne et relations internes équivoques. À partir d’une cartographie des difficultés par type de SN simples, composés, complexes et mixtes (mise en facteur d’une partie terminologisée et d’un élément libre), nous proposons un décodage incrémentiel (repérer le noyau, cartographier les constituants, formuler des hypothèses de lecture, contre-vérifier les hypothèses puis valider en fonction des savoirs disciplinaires) et des méthodes transférables (reconstruction de la forme longue, double stratégie lecture lexicalisée/compositionnelle, analyse modification/complémentation, traduction discursive pour désamorcer la sur‑terminologisation). Le tableau de synthèse (Tableau 2) structure ces recommandations pour la formation et l’auto‑apprentissage. Enfin, nous ouvrons une double perspective : empirique, pour valider et mesurer l’impact des mécanismes sur la décision traductive; didactique, pour concevoir des dispositifs pédagogiques interactifs et des protocoles d’évaluation adossés aux méthodes de décodage. Dans un contexte de densification terminologique, nous plaidons pour une assistance technologique qui augmente et accompagne le raisonnement humain, plutôt que de s’y substituer.
