Ce projet de recherche qualitative a eu pour but d'étudier différentes difficultés rencontrées par un groupe d'étudiants internationaux dans une université de langue anglaise à Montréal, Québec, Canada, ainsi que les facteurs qui, selon ces étudiants, les ont aidés ou pourraient les aider à avoir une meilleure expérience. Des entrevues semi-structurées ont été effectuées avec chacun des participants. Parmi les expériences rapportées par les participants sont des difficultés liées à la langue, des difficultés liées aux études et au milieu universitaire, des difficultés d'ordre personnel et social, ainsi que des difficultés d'ordre culturel. Ces types de difficultés figurent également dans la littérature. Alors que les participants ont parlé positivement des différents services étant à la disposition des étudiants sur le campus, ils ont également décrit des sources de soutien supplémentaires qu'ils considèreraient utiles (par exemple, un programme de soutien linguistique individuel, un soutien financier, etc.). Cette étude a également démontré que ce ne sont pas tous les étudiants internationaux qui, au début de leurs études, sont au courant de certains services essentiels étant à leur disposition (à savoir les programmes de jumelage et de tutorat avec d'autres étudiants). Puisque les établissements d'enseignement postsecondaire ont vu une augmentation considérable du nombre d'étudiants internationaux au cours des dernières décennies (The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, 2011, 2014; Institute of International Education, 2014), tendre la main aux étudiants internationaux devrait être l'une des priorités des universités, de manière à faire en sorte que le plus grand nombre d'étudiants possible puissent profiter des services dont ils peuvent avoir besoin.Note: La forme masculine est utilisée dans le but d'alléger le texte.
