The Guid Sisters, la traduction de la pièce Les Belles-S urs de Michel Tremblay en « Scots », dialecte écossais, par Bill Findlay et Martin Bowman, a connu un immense succès critique des deux côtés de l'Atlantique, en plus d'être considérée comme une réussite traductologique. Sachant que le parcours inverse, la traduction en « joual » de l'adaptation théâtrale du roman écossais Trainspotting, par Martin Bowman et Wajdi Mouawad, s'est aussi révélé probant, on démontre que l'ethnocentrisme patent de ces traductions n'entre pas en conflit avec le décentrement préconisé par certaines approches traductologique. Les similarités sociopolitiques et linguistiques entre les peuples québécois et écossais, mais aussi leurs différences, permettent un échange traductionnel bilatéral qui stimule un dialogue entre ces cultures minoritaires, intrinsèquement décentrées face aux cultures française ou anglaise dominantes. Les traducteurs Findlay et Bowman ont encouragé ce dialogue en discutant ouvertement de leur démarche dans divers articles spécialisés, contribuant à mettre en valeur le rôle du traducteur comme co-auteur des textes traduits.
