Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Distributed by Bullfrog Films, PO Box 149, Oley, PA 19547; 800-543-FROG (3764)Produced by Melanie ChaitDirected by Melanie Chait2021, Streaming, 80 mins Melanie Chait set out on a mission to document her wife’s struggle with battling breast cancer in South Africa. Her wife, Nancy Diuguid, was loved by her theatre community and was often rewarded for her contributions to the field. Although she was beloved, she was still criticized by the media for her holistic approach to treatment and recovery. Themes of this film range from death, love, sexuality, as well as feminism and environmental activism. Married couple Melanie and Nancy spent most of their lives fighting for environmental change, especially as it relates to releasing harmful pesticides into the air and crops, due to Nancy’s cancer diagnosis. Their activism didn’t just stop at environmental causes, however. While battling cancer, Nancy began working with the community through art therapy classes and continuing her work in theatres. Nancy’s actions and perspective demonstrates that despite life’s hardships, you should never give up happiness and what you believe in. There is always something to fight for. This deeply intimate, and often gut-wrenching, film is an excellent companion for conversations ranging from environmental activism, art therapies, community engagement, living with a fatal illness, and love and sexuality. Awards:Best of Fest & Best Documentary, Cinema Systers Film Festival; Best Feature Documentary, Toronto International Women Film Festival; Best Editing, Women in Film Festival, Zurich
