Dans l’intérêt de répondre à la question de l’élasticité du temps dessiné qui se pose dans l’adaptation du roman policier Sous la Surface(2013) de l’écrivain québécois Martin Michaud en bande dessinée, portant le même titre(2019), nous nous demanderons comment le bédéiste a excellé à abuser des techniques de la bande dessinée afin de représenter le temps. L’enjeu principal de cette étude est de déceler la manipulation du temps dans la transposition visuelle d’un support écrit, selon l’optique proposée par Thierry Groensteen (2022), tout en se référant aux autres œuvres du même théoricien. Tout récit est composé de différentes actions déployées par rapport au temps visant la construction d’une intrigue. Quant au médium de la bande dessinée, le temps est manipulé par le découpage et l’organisation des cases sur la planche de la BD. C’est pourquoi, nous traiterons, d’abord, de la typologie d’enchaînement entre les différentes cases de la bande dessinée. En deuxième lieu, nous étudierons le sur ou sous découpage des cases à travers l’évocation des planches simples ou complexes. En troisième lieu, nous soulignerons la contiguïté sans consécution reliant deux images qui évoquent deux moments simultanés, tenus pour synchrones. En quatrième lieu , nous nous éluciderons la planche déchronologisée provoquant l'engagement mental du lecteur qui se trouve obligé de reconstruire intellectuellement le fil narratif. En fin de compte, nous suivrons à quel point la pause descriptive imprègne le lecteur dans l’ambiance esthétique de la bande dessinée, .Mots Clés : Élasticité du temps, Bande Dessinée, Adaptation
