Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

New paracrinoid echinoderm specimens are described from the Late Ordovician, Neuville Formation of Québec, Canada. These new specimens share key features with the unusually preserved and poorly known Amygdalocystites? gorgo. Based on the new specimens, this taxon is distinctive from Amygdalocystites and requires establishing a new and separate genus. Quebecocystites gorgo new genus, is exceptionally preserved displaying fine details of the feeding structures, stalk, and holdfast, which are rarely preserved within paracrinoids. This new taxon has a combination of characteristics including an amygdaloidal body with two long ambulacra, a theca composed of numerous, unorganized, and unornamented plates lacking respiratory structures, thin and reduced floor plates, and long thin brachioles. The inclusion of this new taxon into a previously published phylogenetic analysis indicates a close relationship with the Platycystitidae and suggests that respiratory structures evolved independently four times within paracrinoids. Finally, the exceptional preservation of Q. gorgo provides new insights into the paleoecology of paracrinoids including direct comparisons with other suspension feeding echinoderms allowing for the assessment of potential competition, regeneration of brachioles, and galls and pits suggesting parasitism.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
