L’animal est porteur dans la fable animale d’une récurrence topique qui fait de l’intertexte de la fable l’un des plus vastes et les plus étendus dans le temps et l’espace, et il est lui-même véhicule topique : ce qu’il transmet et transforme, ce sont justement ces topoï au sens discursif et même langagier du terme (« on dit que », « untel a écrit que », « il est bon que » etc.) auxquels il se réfère sans cesse et qu’il réinscrit dans le récit qui les exemplifie, qui lui-même devient à son tour porteur de topoï narratifs. Si le topos est, au sens que la SATOR lui donne, une configuration narrative récurrente, la parole animale en est le lieu immémorial de réinvention. C’est cette fonction charnière, entre topos au sens discursif du terme, et topos narratif transmis et réinventé par le discours animal, que cet article expose à l’aide de quelques exemples choisis et représentatifs du kalila wa dimna , du Śukasaptati du tuti nâmeh , de la 27 e épître des Frères de la pureté, afin de dégager les enjeux de ces enchaînements topiques subtils et complexes, sur la très longue durée et par la migration des textes d’une culture à l’autre, d’Orients en Occident.
