Abstract
Amaçlarından birisi biyoçeşitliliği ortaya koymak olan sistematik biyolojinin en zor ancak bir o kadar da prestijli çalışma alanlarının başında taksonomik revizyon çalışmaları gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada böylesi bir revizyon çalışması Türkiye sahillerinn gel git bölgesinden toplanmış Metis ignea türüne ait farklı populasyonların karşılaştırmalı analizine dayalı olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Nitekim, gelişmiş mikroskop teknikleri kullanılarak yapılan son dönem çalışmaları kopepodlarda yayılışları kozmopolit olarak gözüken türlerin aslında oldukça sınırlı bir biyocoğrafik alanda bulunduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Müze kolleksiyonumuzda daha önceden toplanarak M. ignea olarak tayin edilmiş örnekler DIC ataçmanlı modern ışık mikroskobu ve Tarayıcı Elektron Mikroskopu (SEM) kullanılarak yeniden gözden geçirilmiş ve söz konusu örneklerin temsil ettiği populasyonlar hem populasyoniçi hem de populasyonlararası varyasyon göz önüne alınarak değerlendirilerek karşılaştırılma yapılmıştır. Tüm bu değerledirmeler ışığında incelenen M. ignea olarak belirlenmiş örneklerin doğru olamayabileceği ve hatta büyük ihtimalle bilim dünyası açısından yeni bir türe ait olabileceği tartışılmıştır.
