Magyarországon 1982 óta részesülnek jogszabályi védelemben növényfajok. A veszélyeztetettségükben és rendszertani megítélésükben bekövetkező változásokat követik a jogszabályok és a hazai flóra legértékesebb és legféltettebb tagjait leltárba vevő és bemutató kiadványok is. Az első ilyen könyv az 1982-ben megjelent Védett növényeink, amelyet 1999-ben követett a Magyarország védett növényei című kötet. Az azóta eltelt negyed évszázad alatt jelentősen módosult a védett és fokozottan védett fajok köre, számos faj esetében bővültek ismereteink elterjedésükről, élőhelyigényükről, visszaszorulásuk mértékéről és veszélyeztetettségük okairól. Jelen kötet a hazai felsőoktatási intézmények, nemzeti parki igazgatóságok, múzeumok, a kutatási hálózat és civil szervezetek több mint százhetven munkatársa munkájának az eredménye. A könyvet mintegy kétezer-hatszáz színes fénykép és közel hétszáz elterjedési térkép illusztrálja. A bemutatott fajok elterjedéséről, élőhelyigényéről, a veszélyeztető tényezőkről közérthető és szakszerű szövegek, a fenológiai viszonyokról és a jogi oltalom során alkalmazott, pénzben kifejezett természetvédelmi értékekről diagramok tájékoztatják az Olvasót. Plant species have been afforded statutory protection in Hungary since 1982. Changes in their conservation status and taxonomic interpretation have been reflected both in legislation and in publications that catalogue and present the most valuable and most vulnerable elements of the Hungarian flora. The first such volume was Védett növényeink (Our Protected Plants), published in 1982, followed in 1999 by Magyarország védett növényei (The Protected Plants of Hungary). Over the quarter of a century that has passed since then, the range of protected and strictly protected species has changed considerably, and our knowledge has expanded for many species regarding their distribution, habitat requirements, the extent of their decline, and the causes of their endangerment. The present volume is the result of the work of more than 170 contributors from Hungarian higher education institutions, national park directorates, museums, the research network, and civil organisations. The book is illustrated with approximately 2,600 colour photographs and nearly 700 distribution maps. The reader is provided with accessible yet scientifically rigorous accounts of the distribution and habitat requirements of the species presented, as well as the factors threatening them; diagrams present their phenological patterns and the monetary conservation values assigned under legal protection.
