Abstract
Le Dictionnaire étymologique et critique des anglicismes entend répondre – grâce en partie aux nouveaux moyens informatiques – à trois objectifs : rassembler la quasi-totalité des entrées d'origine anglo-américaine présentes dans les dictionnaires usuels ; vérifier les étymologies (à l’aune des outils livresques et numériques), avec des datations souvent repoussées ; amorcer une réflexion sur le déferlement en France depuis 1945 de mots d'origine anglaise et surtout américaine, accompagnée, au besoin, de propositions d'équivalents offertes par des commissions (en particulier la Commission d'enrichissement de la langue française et l'Office québécois de la langue française) et commentateurs. Pour la première fois, on trouvera un large choix du vocabulaire provenant tant des sciences dites dures que des sciences sociales, assorti, dans la mesure du possible, d'une date et d'une origine. Les termes récents les plus répandus figurent dans ce dictionnaire destiné aussi bien aux journalistes et aux métiers de communication qu'aux chercheurs, aux enseignants, aux étudiants et au grand public.
