Abstract
Este articulo resume un trabajo de investigacion-accion realizado con alumnos avanzados de ingles en el CELE-UNAM. El objetivo consistio en fomentar entre los alumnos una actitud de apertura hacia la alteridad: “la disposicion para suspender la incredulidad sobre lo que ocurre en otras culturas y cuestionar las creencias que tenemos sobre la propia” (Byram, 1997:57). Para ello, la maestra-investigadora exploro una nueva forma de trabajar con cuatro videos —dos documentales y dos videos turisticos— sobre la ciudad de Mexico y la de Montreal. A traves de discusiones, cuestionarios y entrevistas con los alumnos busco dar respuestas a las siguientes preguntas: 1) ?Que imagen se hacen los alumnos de la cultura extranjera y de los extranjeros a partir de los videos presentados? 2) Despues de ver las dos visiones, una critica y la otra muy positiva, de cada una de estas ciudades ?cual recuerdan los alumnos con mayor facilidad? 3) ?Como pueden contribuir los videos turisticos y documentales a fomentar la apertura hacia la alteridad en las clases avanzadas de ingles? La metodologia, asi como los resultados de la investigacion seran presentados en este articulo.
