Abstract
ERAE, XIV (2008) Espana posee una de mas ricas heraldicas de Europa. Hoy en dia todavia es posible ver labras heraldicas en las fachadas de edificios publicos y privados en ciudades y pueblos de toda nuestra orografia, se encuentran tambien en monumentos, templos y sepulcros. Nuestros archivos y bibliotecas estan llenos de armoriales y otros documentos en los que se recogen multitud de emblemas heraldicos. Incluso, en las ultimas decadas diversos eruditos estan tratando de inventariar el rico patrimonio heraldico existente en las diversas comunidades espanolas, en un resurgir del interes por el conocimiento de estos importantes signos de identificacion de los linajes radicados en las mismas. Sin embargo, a veces los arboles no nos permiten ver el bosque y hasta la fecha, que sepamos, no existe ninguna investigacion en la que se pretenda analizar en conjunto las caracteristicas de la heraldica espanola, al estilo de como Pastoureau lo ha efectuado respecto a la heraldica francesa.1 Hace unos anos en el I Congreso Internacional de Emblematica General organizado por la Institucion «Fernando El Catolico» en Zaragoza, durante el mes de diciembre de 1999, se debatio la situacion en que actualmente se encontraba la heraldica en Espana. Destacandose2 el creciente interes existente hoy en dia por la heraldica, que de un arte aulico se habia transformado en una disciplina academica, y la cantidad de nuevos estudios e investigaciones aparecidas en los ultimos veinte anos.
