Un artiste en résidence dans un service d'archives: entretien avec Denis Lessard

Abstract
En 2011, la Division de la gestion de documents et archives (DGDA) de l'Universite de Montreal a accueilli en residence l'artiste montrealais Denis Lessard. L'œuvre de l'artiste, une installation d'ecrans plats diffusant des contenus textuels et iconographiques tires des fonds d'archives de la DGDA, fut placee dans le hall du pavillon abritant le service des archives de l'Universite. L'article rend compte de cette premiere experience de residence d'artiste dans un service d'archives quebecois. Apres une presentation de l'artiste et de sa demarche creatrice, qui l'a souvent amene a exploiter le materiel d'archives, les auteurs decrivent son projet de residence et le processus de creation de l'œuvre. A la lumiere d'echanges avec l'artiste, les auteurs soulignent quatre aspects importants a la realisation du projet: la bonne relation entre l'artiste et l'archiviste, la signature d'une lettre d'entente detaillee entre l'artiste et le service d'archives, une bonne entente sur la diffusion des produits realises et enfin, des conditions financieres adequates. Ce dernier aspect, dans le contexte actuel, est problematique car les ressources financieres sont a toutes fins pratiques inexistantes. Le potentiel creatif que representent les archives est encore loin d'etre pleinement exploite. Les auteurs concluent a la necessite pour les services d'archives de faire preuve d'initiative dans la recherche de financement pour une collaboration accrue avec les artistes.
