L’évaluation et le contrôle exercés par les comités d’éthique de la recherche suscitent aujourd’hui un certain nombre de malaises, tant chez les chercheurs qu’au sein même des comités. L’auteur s’emploie à nommer quelques-uns de ces malaises, tout en cherchant à en expliquer les causes (application mécanique de normes, bureaucratisation, contractualisation des relations entre chercheurs et participants, application aux sciences sociales d’un modèle de recherche médicale). Des propositions sont faites pour revoir le fonctionnement et le travail des comités d’éthique, de manière à en faire davantage des lieux de réflexion.
