Background: In cases of bacteremia, a rapid bacterial identification to the genus and species level is critical to ensure the timely and correct treatment with an antimicrobial agent. The identification of the bacterial agent directly from positive blood culture broths could reduce the time to initiating the most appropiate antibiotic therapy.
