Abstract
Écrire la sociologie par ou avec le cinéma est un défi qui semble plus facile à tenir aujourd’hui avec la réduction des coûts de tournage et de montage en vidéo. Mais au-delà de cette apparence de facilité se posent des questions anciennes auxquelles la sociologie filmique ne peut se soustraire. Les images/sons et l’écrit relèvent de deux modes de connaissance des réalités sociales qui entrent en tension ; la sociologie filmique les conçoit comme complémentaires et organise leur combinaison. Pour atteindre cet objectif, les sociologues-cinéastes doivent apprendre à penser avec le cinéma , ce qui est bien loin de l’expression par la vidéo d’un résultat sociologique déjà acquis. Et ce d’autant plus que la caméra/micro est aussi un outil d’investigation. La réalisation d’un documentaire sociologique passe par l’apprentissage du langage cinématographique, tâche très ardue pour le sociologue, y compris parce que l’image/son sociologique ou ethnographique peut résister à la mise en narration. En même temps, de nouveaux outils tels que le multimédia et l’Internet ouvrent de nouvelles possibilités pour combiner la sociologie filmique et l’écrit.
