L’« affaire » Cyril Burt et ses implications pour la recherche en sciences de l’éducation

Abstract
Ces récentes années, tant dans les milieux académiques que dans la presse populaire, la véracité des travaux de Cyril Burt sur les jumeaux identiques a été mise en cause. Certains n’ont pas hésité à affirmer que la théorie innéiste de l’intelligence, mise de l’avant par Burt, reposait sur une fraude monumentale. L’auteur de cet article analyse ces accusations et donne son point de vue sur le litige. On constate que, bien au-delà de cette controverse particulière, se pose, notamment pour les sciences de l’éducation, le problème fondamental des rapports de l’objectivité des découvertes du chercheur à l’ensemble de son système de valeurs, des liens entre les faits et les idéologies.
