Face à la demande d’éthique dans la société moderne, et particulièrement dans le champ de la santé, l’État mandate ses institutions publiques pour gérer les enjeux éthiques soulevés par ses politiques d’intervention et de prise en charge. Des comités et commissions d’éthique se verront déléguer de larges responsabilités. Or, une telle éthique appliquée de l’intérieur des institutions par des « experts » constitue-t-elle une menace à la démocratie ? Se résume-t-elle aux instrumentalisations qui peuvent en être faites par les pouvoirs politiques ? Risque-t-elle d’être dénaturée par son recours à une approche principiste si cette dernière s’ouvre à une éthique de la discussion ? Conduit-elle à la disqualification des autres discours critiques en particulier des critiques politiques ? Enfin, les politiques publiques de santé étant normatives, l’éthique appliquée à ces politiques se doit-elle d’être normative ? Des ébauches de réflexion seront ici proposées autour de ces questionnements.
